About

Bothán Te.

Inishturk sits 14.5km off the coast of County Mayo. A small and beautiful island of green grass and stone. Holding fast against the Atlantic. It has a population of around 50 people all year round with many more around the world who know it as home. Whether you are a life-long friend of the island or if you're just visiting for the day, you'll always find a warm welcome here.

Bothán Te (meaning a warm cabin, a hot hut) is the Inishturk sauna experience; a cosy, birch-fired barrel sauna that sits nicely within its stunning surroundings. Once you sit within it, you'll find yourself gently aligning with the pace of life on the island. Built with heat retaining naturally finished wood, its half-moon window has an unparalleled view over the calm, clear green waters of the lagoon at Portdoon; an ancient natural harbour.

The Wild Atlantic Way runs the length of Ireland's west coast and Inishturk is one of its most idyllic stops. The sauna is a place to slow down, refresh and recharge in one of the most serene and beautiful settings.

The Loop Walks

Your choice, green or purple... Both trails offer phenomenal walking for all levels. They overlap, meaning you're guaranteed some of the best walks you'll ever experience. With endless ocean on one side and the mainland on the other, whichever trail you take, you'll be presented with some of the best views in existence.

ii.

The Harbour Tea Rooms

Expect the warmest of welcomes from Pauline (and perhaps Mick too if he's not out fishing), followed by the finest apple tart you'll ever try! Not to mention the stunning views from their sunroom and garden. Located less than a minutes' walk from the harbour, this is an essential stop when you land or before you leave.

iii.

The Community Centre

The heart of island life and a meeting place where islanders and visitors mingle. You never know who you're going to meet and what you might learn over a couple of pints in the bar. You can enjoy delicious, freshly cooked meals in the Caher View Restaurant or just enjoy a drink or two out on the sunny terrace and take in what is probably the best view of any pub in Ireland.

iv.

The Community Shop

Get all of your treats, hot and cold drinks and essential goods in the Community Shop located at the Community Centre. Opening Hours are 1-3pm daily, Sundays 1-2pm.

v.

The GAA Pitch

Marked out on the only piece of flat land on the island; this playing field must be one of the remotest in the world! Open to all for a puck and a kickabout; or a match if you can muster up the numbers for a team.

Other Points of Interest

The island's sea stacks are a dramatic sight from the cliff paths, and Lough Coolanirk sits perfectly still in the hills above the village. You'll find beaches here that you'll have entirely to yourself — sheltered coves with water so clear it barely looks real.
